WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO HAVE A ‘GOD’?

INTRODUCTION
The thought of having a ‘God’ brings into the scene an entity to look up to as Lord, sustainer and moral law giver to determine right from wrong.

Aps Paul in Acts 17:28 made a striking statement in Athens which said “For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’”
Even the poets in the days of Aps.Paul believed that men were the offsprings of a God. Isn’t it interesting to know that men always want to associate themselves to a superior being? For you can only be powerful if you are under authority and anything from a divine source is in itself divine in a sense. Apostle Paul was however quick to comment on the previous when he said that “Therefore since we are God’s offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone—an image made by human design and skill.” Acts 17:29. This means that inasmuch we as men need a superior being to be Lord over our lives, it is an error to create them ourselves for a creature cannot create for himself a moral law giver.

What then does it mean to have a god?
To have a god means to be under subjection to truth and life, and a divine being who is both a giver and sustainer of this life. Jesus Christ is the only personality who fits this majestic mystery. Truth because the message of Christ is the only truth that has power to set people free from the bondage of sin (John 8:32 ) and with him also is the fountain of life; it is only in his light we see light(Psalms 36:9). All things were created through him and for him; both visible and invisible (Colossians 1:16) and it is clear because it is written that “For the full content of divine nature lives in Christ.” (TEV), Colossians 2:9.

CONCLUSION
The God we know as Christians is self-sustaining, thus, he doesn’t need humans to direct his path for He is LORD indeed and all things feed on him as source. As our source of life and being, the presence of God in the life of a believer becomes very important because he guides us along the way always showing us what to do as far as this cosmos is concerned.
